Basic Medical Science
BMS105 Anatomy and Lab
These courses cover the structure of the human body, its par their relationships, through lecture and practical lab. Gross anatomy labs include cadaver dissection. Living anatomy lab introduce aspects of physical diagnosis and orthopedic exams.
Anatomy 105 includes gastrointestinal, hepatic, abdominal, and pelvic structures. (5 credits)
Anatomy 205 studies the heart and lungs, chest, thorax, back and the extremities. ( 5 credits)
Anatomy 305 covers the head, neck. and neuroanatomy. (5 credits}
Anatomy Lab 405 covers aspects of physical diagnosis and orthopedic exams.

Anatomy Lab 505 covers dissection and study of cadavers (5 credits)
BMS106 Embryology
Embryology 106 outlines the origins and development of anatomical structures. (2 credits}
BMS107 Environmental and Public Health
Environmental and Public Health107 studies the cause, spread, control, and prevention of communicable diseases, and the naturopathic physician's responsibility to the community in diagnosis and reporting of health risks. (1 credit}
Environmental and Public Health 207 covers legal documents such as birth and death certificates. Toxicology in the home, workplace, and environment are also covered. (1 credit)
BMS108 Histology
Histology 108 combines cellular anatomy with its relevant physiology. This course allow understanding of the cells; the where, the what, and the why. Biochemical pathways, as they work within and through cellular structures is also covered. (3
credits)
BMS109 History of Medicine
The history and development of medicine is presented, tracing naturopathic and allopathic therapies from their roots to the leading edge technologies of today. (2 credits)
BMS110 Human Physiology and Lab
Human Physiology 110 covers the digestive tract, liver function, and general cell metabolism. {5 credits)
Human Physiology 210 continues with cardiovascular, pulmonary, musculoskeletal and renal function. {5 credits)
Human Physiology 310 studies endocrine, neural and brain functions. {5 credits)
Human Physiology Lab 410 lets students perform various physiological function tests, and learn the use of equipment such as EEG and EGG. {3 credits)
BMS111 Immunology
Immunology covers the cellular, biochemical, neurological, physiological, and psychological roles of the immune system, with emphasis on the body's natural responses to microbial infections and tumor growth. This course includes clinical review of genetics, immune deficiency, toxicology, and auto- immunity. (2 credits)
BMS104 Learning Skills
This course is a workshop in study and memory techniques. {1 credit)
BMS112 Biochemistry and Lab
Biochem 112 develops a view into cellular physiology and chemistry, studying the chemical functions of the
body. Neuro-hormonal regulation, vitamins, enzymes and minerals are reviewed for the student to get a thorough nutritional understanding. (3 credits)
Biochem Lab 412 uses clinical tests involving the students' own nutritional and dietary habits, as well as fasting. (2 credits)
BMS113 Medical Genetics
Medical Genetics reviews diagnosis and transmission of genetic and chromosomal disorders. The latest research in human molecular genetics is also discussed. {2 credits)
BMS114 Microbiology and Lab
Microbiology 114 studies the organisms, viruses, and bacteria that are identified in clinical situations. {2 credits)
Practical labs (214) include bacteriology isolation and identification procedures, and serological tests. {2 credits)
BMS115 Nutrition
Nutrition 115 and 215 continue Medical Biochemistry. (6 credits)
Nutrition 315 and 415 are intensives that expose the student to the application of naturopathic techniques in
nutritional therapeutics. (6 credits)
BMS 116 Pathology and Lab
Pathology 116, 216 and 316 study the nature of diseases, the causes, symptoms, structural and functional changes in organs and cells. (9 credits)
Pathology Lab 416 includes autopsies and review of various stages of disease in the systems of the body. (5 credits)
